Post-Dental Examination Best Practices

Maintaining proper dental health and reducing gum disease and tooth decay can be achieved by following these best practices.

01

To prevent tooth decay and gum disease, brush your teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.

02

The practice of flossing daily assists in removing plaque and food particles that are stuck between your teeth and cannot be removed by brushing alone.

03

Make sure you limit your consumption of sugary and acidic foods and drinks. These foods and beverages can erode tooth enamel and cause decay.

04

Avoid smoking and using smokeless tobacco. Smoking can cause tooth discolouration, bad breath, and the development of oral cancer.

05

Regular dental check-ups and cleans allow the dentist to identify potential problems early on and treat them appropriately.

06

If you play sports, you should wear a mouthguard.

07

Ask your dentist if you have a dry mouth to increase saliva flow, which will prevent tooth decay.

Dental Checkups FAQ

A dental examination is a routine check-up performed by our dentists at Smile HQ to assess the overall health of a person’s teeth, gums, and mouth.

During the examination, the dentist will look for any signs of decay, tumours, cysts, and bone loss. They will also check the bite and alignment of the teeth and look for signs of oral cancer.

X-rays may also be taken to check for issues that cannot be seen during a visual examination, such as decay beneath a filling or problems with the roots of the teeth.

The dentist may also clean the teeth and provide professional teeth cleaning.

The purpose of the examination is to identify any potential issues early on so that they can be treated before they become more serious.

A dental examination is an overall checkup of your oral health. Your dentist will not conduct any major treatments during this time. As a result of the examination, you will be provided a bespoke treatment plan that can assist in preventing any future issues.

You may brush your teeth prior to your appointment (optional). Other than that, take a deep breath and we’ll see you there.

At Smile HQ, we provide the maximum level of comfort for our clients. The examination itself is not a painful experience. We’ll simply be looking around to make sure everything is in order and give your teeth a new shine before you leave.

The examination should not take more than 45-minutes to an hour to complete at Smile HQ.
